Many people have started to develop a taste for minimalism, and rightly so! With this gaining interest, finding the right ceiling lights for modern homes is very essential.
With the increasing amount of consumerism and population, material things have been piling up and they have also started to create a mess in the houses. People should begin to understand the importance of living light and being light.
And this has started to reflect on their interior design choices as well, from straight-line furniture to linear false ceiling designs! Gone are the days when people were big fans of intricate, artistic details in their furniture and other design elements of the interiors of their houses. (I like the vintage, though!)
Also, the vintage and the old-style interior and detailing require big pockets and good craftsmen. It’s not easily available these days. You may find them in cities that have had a history of such details. Like when I was working in Delhi at the beginning of my career, I came across people who were a big fan of the Romans and Renaissance and all the other archaic styles for their interior themes.
But since I have moved to Pune, I haven’t come across a single client that has asked for such design themes. There are reasons.
- They don’t have enough knowledge or awareness.
- They don’t have the budget.
- They don’t have the time.
People here lead a very busy life. So, they are mostly looking for functional furniture and simpler interior designs. With the modular industry rising, false ceiling designs have also become simpler.
I have not even done a single project here where the POP mesh ceiling is done. Only gypsum ceiling is popular here, and the general public knows of just that.
It used to baffle me earlier. But I have learned to live with this.
So, when you are limited by these constraints, you develop the practice of being creative with these limited aspects.
So, I have started using profile lights a lot in my ceiling designs. They look modern, elegant, cleaner, and minimalistic. I have met people who are still not known to profile lights! And there are flexible profile lights now available in the market that you can mould and create a curved pattern. I will use it soon in some of my projects!
However, there are a lot of design possibilities with just profile lights as well.
I designed this very simple pattern for the kitchen and dining area ceiling of a project I completed this year.
The client was very clear about not wanting the cove lights in their ceiling. So, I changed the design of the living room false ceiling as well. (You can see the earlier design I had proposed for the adjoining living room in the first picture.)
So, we ended up finalizing the simple profile light designs for the kitchen and dining area.
How do you like it? Do you think we should explore more possibilities in the minimal theme or should we bring back the carvings, and the mouldings and the antiquity into our designs?
What do you think are even better lighting options for modern homes?
What according to you are more creative options for the ceiling lights for modern homes?
